During a recent conversation with a friend, she told me that she does not really post anything on Facebook as almost no one engages with her content these days. I realize that she is not the only one who does this. I also have become more and more of a content consumer rather than the content creator on Facebook.
Facebook’s algorithm for your newsfeed is based on how often you interact with someone’s content recently, among other factors. Thus, when someone’s content has less and less engagement from the others, they get turned-off from putting almost any content on Facebook and they just turn into data consumers. On the other hand, there are some people who voraciously upload content on Facebook and that is enough to keep your newsfeed fresh. However with the new rollout of Facebook Graph, the product might not be as useful as a lot of people assume as more and more people are not posting content on Facebook anymore. To add to the woe, this problem gets worse with time. I do not know how big of a problem this is and lets us hope for the sake of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg is on top of this.
